The thing that had first drawn me into BlueDoor's shop was these old pieces of paper with beautiful drawings on them. Something so simple yet absolutely stunning! Turning old items into new ones. Great idea!
The drawings are on vintage paper, drawn with all sorts of thing such as pen, ink, marker, charcoal and acrylic. You can even add a frame to any of her work for only $5 more! She also does original pieces on canvas and they are gorgeous! BlueDoor donates 10% of all purchases to charitywater.org!
Here are some words from the creator of BlueDoor ;
" I am a history teacher who lives in Colorado with my husband, author Jeff Cook and my two rowdy toddlers Augie (5) and Becket (3). I have loved art since high school but really just got back into it in my middle 20s. When my son Augie was born I thought I had lost a lot of myself to his constant care. When he was 18 months old he was diagnosed with a speech delay and we were told it might be autism. Even though I had my moments of total self pity I chose to start doing art on my down time and both catharsis and therapy. Augie has almost totally come out of the fog of autism, and today at a healthy and happy 5 I feel like he is my little miracle.... with some awesome personality quirks and a brilliant intellect. He and Becket are my little miracles.
I create art that is really colorful, whimsical and often very light hearted. I think this comes from my joy in embracing just what this life has handed me... making lemonade and all.
I am super green and that is why my art is all on some type of recycled material. I love seeing the worthless, the trash and helping it to become restored.
Just this year I have taken a semi-hiatus from full time teaching to do art. In the fall I will be a part time teacher for the first time in 10 years and a full time artist.
My work has been seen most recently at the Atlas Theater in Greeley, Colorado the French Nest in Fort Collins, Colorado and the Babes in the Woods Gallery in Girdwood, Alaska.
Because I have been fortunate enough to have my baby's life restored I believe in supporting the lives of other mothers who have to watch their children suffer. That is why I am happy to give away 10% of everything I make to charitywater.org. --- they give 100% to building wells in Africa and setting people free to live a whole life."
